The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be building positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further business:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
