The former Liverpool manager says coming back to coach Liverpool is conceivable.

The German coach, who departed from Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that rejoining the club is something that could happen. The 58-year-old, after a transformative near-decade reign featuring Champions League success and the Reds’ first league title in 30 years, currently occupies positions overseeing worldwide football with the Red Bull group and as an advisor for the DFL.

Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments

Liverpool won England's top flight under Arne Slot, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would welcome the possibility that he may eventually return. Speaking candidly, he explained to the podcast host: “I stated I refuse to lead a different club in England. Therefore in case it's my former club...yes. It's plausible.”

“Being 58, that means I could make the decision later on, who knows. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. Fortunately, no such pressure exists. I'll wait and observe how things unfold.”

Conditions for a Comeback

Questioned regarding which situations must arise to draw him back to the touchline, he revealed he feels no immediate pull toward coming back. “I'm not entirely sure, I love what I do right now,” he said. “I don’t miss coaching; No desire to be during downpours through long matches; I don’t miss going to press conferences four times, three times a week or constant media duties weekly.

“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, yet sharing a meal alongside the squad having a nice chat, I appreciate that. With many victories meaning regularly a very good mood around the place. I still have Van Dijk's laughter vividly recalled to illustrate.”

Praise for His Successor

He commended for his successor, crediting him for the tweaks that won the league last term. The team has suffered a string of losses across various tournaments after a summer spending spree, though he denied the suggestion that it might signal a slump.

“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker like Florian Wirtz, critics will regret if you use the wrong words. He’s an incredible talent. [Hugo] Ekitike, excellent performer. This is a well-built well-judged squad. No need for concern regarding the Reds, they'll bounce back.”

Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward

He shared movingly about the death of Diogo Jota, a player he signed in 2020, along with the consequences on Liverpool. Jota was killed in a car crash with his brother in July.

“Who can fill the void of a person like him? It’s not about his footballing ability, his personality mattered. I can’t imagine the dressing room without him in it. Putting it into words is tough about it. It was an incredible shock for his teammates as well. Not a single person would cite it as an excuse though it's a fact. You walk in a dressing room which he filled completely. Dealing with that emotionally is not easy. Unbearable.”
