Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's expected for doubts to be asked about his position after a further convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in twelve matches, representing the club's worst run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received plenty of support from management,” the coach remarked.
“It's important to turn it around and get a victory naturally but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Club Management
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal discussions I sense the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them after this match so far so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Problems and Player Response
Slot highlighted familiar weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League loss, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don't have to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a phase like this with outcomes like these.”
Jones finished, “But we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is gone, we'll continue to battle.”
“Our aim is to get this team back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
