Shock as Renowned South African DJ Gunned Down in Johannesburg.
A prominent South African media personality and entertainer has been fatally gunned down in the metropolis of Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a country struggling with rampant crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was attacked in the city centre on Tuesday afternoon.
Officials stated the 40-year-old media personality was approached by a trio of assailants, with one shot at him before escaping on foot.
The reason of the attack remains unclear and no arrests have been made, police said.
Details of the Attack
Authorities indicated that Stock was ambushed as he was leaving a building in the vicinity of the city center landmark.
He had devoted time at the property managing the implementation of security systems, which had been reportedly taken over by unknown people, as per local media.
"Authorities believe the deceased was approached by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they shot at him before escaping on foot," a police statement stated.
Security camera video reportedly captured a suspect with dreadlocked hair and clad in what looked like a security uniform opening fire on Stock before fleeing.
The DJ tried to run away after he was hit but fell down across the street.
Officials noted that Stock had an gun that was not fired and nothing was taken during the incident.
Key evidence, like cartridges, were recovered from the scene.
Appeal for Witnesses
Police have appealed anyone who saw the event who may have witnessed the attack to contact them.
"Our information indicates they covered significant ground after the attack, and officers have been following their trail to find their location," added an official.
Outpouring of Grief
His family member, Nicole Stock, said the loved ones are reeling to understand the tragedy.
"Words fail me. I cannot express the pain," she said.
"It is clear he was a voice for many people. He was a fearless commentator about subjects not many people were ready to tackle. This is a profound tragedy."
She requested the citizens to refrain from sharing disturbing footage from the incident, saying this was an extremely painful time, especially for Stock's children.

Stock was the host of Ngicel' iVisa, a television program that premiered on a popular local digital satellite entertainment channel.
Beyond his media career, Stock was active in various entrepreneurial pursuits, including private security, providing VIP protection services and managing safety for prestigious gatherings across South Africa.
He was also understood to participate in building administration and was involved in building evictions.

His murder has caused national trauma and led to an outpouring of tributes from his fans, the authorities and political parties.
A senior figure said he was angry and saddened by Stock's untimely death.

A public representative commented the "shocking killing of DJ Warras in broad daylight is a tragedy for all South Africans".
A broadcasting director expressed that "DJ Warras was far beyond a TV personality. He was a skilled narrator, a true devotee of sound and a generous spirit who brought joy and energy to every appearance. His artistic passion left an profound impact."
In a statement, the network he worked for said Stock was known for his presence, approachability and intelligent commentary, adding that his memory "will live on".
