Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Sparks Heated Debates Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but features several key adjustments:
- Each team includes just 8 real players, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions done by real players award complete experience points, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
- Only two maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.
In short, this mode lives up to its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it gives more options for players looking for different methods to have fun with the title. But, if video games has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 players are upset.
Community Responses: From Fury to Support
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," comments a different user. At the same time, in community forums, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," while another lists everything they consider to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this game all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," adds another. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Criticisms and Community Input
Despite the support, players have valid points to criticize the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists due to the sheer number of options currently available. On a similar note, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was promised to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to remove bot farms from the system. So this new playlist seems like the player base meeting them halfway, according to forum feedback. A different user describes this mode as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?
Should the development team has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
