Adult Swim's Leading Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Significant Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.
Last October, Adult Swim welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the channel introduced a completely new animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a serene talk show. In an era often characterized by bleakness, this show's earnestness found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.
A Major Commitment
In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the world of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."
A President's Endorsement
In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky style.
"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about following this lovable family navigate their simple existence.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his goal to help comedy break out of its long-running cynical streak. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.
“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
Future Seasons
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially catalyze that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
